This magnificent marble bust was unearthed in Osia, a town near Rome, in 1797, and is thought to date back to AD 165-170. The striking sculpture portrays Co-Emperor Lucius Verus as an imposing figure of authority. Adopted by Emperor Antoninus Pius as his heir, Lucius Verus shared the throne with Marcus Aurelius, whose daughter he later married. This exceptional representation of Imperial portraiture showcases the Emperor in all his dignified and powerful glory. Notice how skillfully the drill was used to create his hair and beard.
