CNC Router Spindle Dust Collection Boot

This is a 4 part cnc router dust boot assembly designed to be used with the Makita RT0701 router spindle or similar 65mm router spindle. The main body features 12 exhaust ports to expel the spindle exhaust perpendicular to the boot and not directly towards the work piece which can cause unnecessary dust to be introduced into the air you breathe. The main body also houses the 3d printed extension piece for the spindle lock button. This allows bit changes without having to remove any part of the dust boot. The dust hose connector is designed around a 2-1/2" dust collection hose and clamp, but could be easily resized to accept a shop vac style hose. The main dust boot body accepts 4 M3 threaded heatset inserts which the dust hose connector can be fastened to using 4 M3 button or socket head cap screws of about 6-10mm in length. The threaded inserts should be no more than 4mm in length, otherwise you will need to deepen the holes they are pressed into. To install the inserts, you'll need 4 brass inserts and a soldering iron. I'd also recommend getting an installation tip or tip set which are specifically intended to install heatset inserts into 3d printed parts with a soldering iron. I used these inserts but anything similar in dimensions should be fine (https://www.mcmaster.com/94180A331/). There are plenty of tutorials on how to do this and it is a fairly straight forward process. The brush holder part attaches to the main boot body with matching 6mm x 2mm rare earth magnets CA glued into the 4 recesses in the top of the brush holder and 4 recesses in the bottom of the dust boot body. You will need a total of 8 magnets. You will also need one 72-95mm hose clamp which goes around the spindle housing of the boot main body to secure the assembly to your router spindle. I used these clamps but again, any hose clamp of similar size should do (https://www.mcmaster.com/5415K25/). The dust boot was designed to be used with these brushes cut to length (https://www.mcmaster.com/1469N15/). They make tool free clamps as well which are nice if you intend to remove the boot often. The brushes are just a friction fit. There is a retaining lip in the inside bottom edge of the brush holder. You can resize or remove this if you use a different brand of brushes. If you do use a different brand or style brush, be sure to verify the spine width and height dimensions or you may need to adjust the 3d printed part dimensions for a different brush to fit. In total, this should cost you no more than $10 USD, a huge savings when compared to commercially available solutions costing 50-100 USD or more! I included the Fusion 360 design file so you could modify the parts to suite other spindles, dust hoses, brush sizes, screws, etc. Any questions are suggestions don't hesitate to send me a message. Happy Printing!!
