This router, crafted from laser-cut 1/4" steel plate, features electronic components sourced from China along with bearing blocks and 1/2"-13 rod for leadscrews. It boasts impressive performance at a max rapid of 20 ipm and offers excellent rigidity for milling aluminum, even for cutting molds. The total project cost, including an upgraded 400 watt spindle, was approximately $600, using a harbor freight 2 hp router as the model. Although alternative tools like Dremels can be used for softer materials, they may struggle with light cuts in wood. Printed parts from ABS have proven strong and may negate the need for permanent machined components.
