This was a project I did to see how cheap I could make a decent cnc router.I used steppers I got out of old ink-jet printers except for the one on the z-axis, I didn't have anything powerful enough for it so i had to buy a small nema17. all the parts in yellow are 3d-printed and can fit within a 100x100mm printing bed. the beams are from aluminium extrusion i got really cheply at the hardware store. The screws are just threaded rods and the nuts are regular nuts. I used skate bearings to allow a smooth movement and reduce load on the bearings.it works pretty well and is certainly cheaper than going down the route of proper linear bearings and lead screws. It uses a Dremel as a spindle and I'm just using one of the stock bits that sort of works. I really need to get a proper router bit!I use if for cutting foam and balsa wood.it has a useable working area of 500x250x100mm so its not badthe model is still a bit rough but it worked for me.
