In 2012, I created a CNC milling machine as my second DIY project, designed for personal use in tasks like PCB manufacturing and plastic part creation. This improved version boasts a balance between cost and performance, with standard parts such as aluminum profiles and PVC bases reducing costs while still allowing customization of ball screw drives, rails, and other components. The machine is capable of etching PCBs at 2000mm/min with an accuracy of 0.05mm, handling various non-metal materials like ABS, POM, glass fiber, Acrylic, etc. The total cost was approximately $300, including electronics modules such as power supplies and motor drivers.
