A CNC machine for hobbyists was designed for a school project, measuring approximately 2ft x 2ft x 2ft and fitting on a table. It is ideal for working with soft materials like aluminum, wood, or plastics. The linear motion is powered by lead screws and stepper motors via belt drives, providing high resolution (0.05" per motor rotation; 0.0025" per step in full step operation). The base is made of aluminum 8020 with custom machined plates and mounts, although less effort was invested in exploring alternatives for these components due to project focus.
