In January 2008, Dieter Freind shared designs for an automatic tool changer for CNC lathes, featuring accurate positioning of eight tools while maintaining rigidity. Despite the design's elegance and simple solutions to challenging problems, Dieter's website disappeared by May 2011, causing his plans to be lost. However, through collaborative efforts on CNC forums, his designs were shared again, allowing me to obtain them. While updating his drawings to SolidWorks and making improvements, I found inconsistencies in the original files, which had been passed around numerous times before reaching me. Dieter himself acknowledged that his drawings might contain errors.
