CNC Clamp-On Surface Probe
thingiverse
I didn't fancy chasing the ER11 around to ensure the touch plate is always under the cutter, so I came up with this Clamp On Probe. It clamps on where the spanner goes on the ER11, so it pretty much sits in the same position every time. I designed it in Tinkercad and printed it with PLA using a 03 LH/0.6mm nozzle and 20% infill. Some parts need supports to ensure stability. To connect the touch plate to the clamp: M4x75mm machine screw is required, along with two M4 nuts at the top to lock it in place while probing. The spring used has a 4mm inside diameter and 20mm length, typically found on 3D printer beds. Push the M4x75 up from the bottom of the touch plate, followed by the spring and then the "Spacer". Push the screw through the "Clamp Front" and secure with two M4 nuts. Adjust the height of the probe using these screws and lock them together. For the back of the clamp probe: M3x25mm machine screw is required to make contact with the ER11 and close the electrical circuit. Three M3 nuts are needed for this purpose. A piece of 4mm inside diameter spring, approximately 8mm long, is necessary. The length may vary, so you'll need to experiment and find the optimal length yourself. Cut a piece about 14-15mm long and try it out; if it's too long, simply trim it down until you get the desired fit. Place one nut on the screw and tighten it all the way up to the head. Then, add the cable and secure it between two nuts. Push the screw through the back of the "Spring cover" and place the spring on the screw, followed by a third nut. Place the "Spring cover" on the back of the "Clamp back" and secure with two self-tapping screws. To connect the "hinges" together, you'll need an M3 threaded rod, approximately 18mm long. I used M3 inserts in both parts to ensure strength and stability. Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQFQgBya_m0 If this design is helpful, please click on the "Like" button.
