CNC / 3D printer coupling / Universal Joint
thingiverse
A steel double cardan type connector for handling motor misalignment in CNC machines and 3D printers is designed by the user after an aluminium coupling failure. This connector fits onto 8mm shafts, but can be printed with adjustments. Materials needed include UJ_Centre_8mm, UJ_End_8mm, UJ_Block_8mm, M6x25 CSK machine screws, and M4x10 Sock Head Cap Screws. The blocks should be tapped out to M6, with 6mm non-threaded holes in the centre and end pieces. The counter bored side of the hole in the ends must be opened up to 4mm for proper clamping onto the shaft. To assemble, put all parts together and ensure smooth movement. File clearance if necessary for misaligned axes or motors. Share and modify as desired.
