To create a hassle-free and quick hotend without requiring special tools, the author initially tried using Nichrome wire heaters for the Extruder Hot End of a RepRap Mendel. However, they encountered difficulties in connecting the heater properly. Switching to power resistors, they attached a 6R8 5W rectangular ceramic-cased resistor to the nozzle using copper wire and applied heat-conducting paste for better performance. A heat shield was built with multiple layers of Capton tape wrapped around a square copper wire frame for stability, and a 5 Euro cent coin was added to fix everything in place, including a threaded 6mm hole for the nozzle and a 2mm hole for the thermistor. The hotend operated flawlessly on a 12V power source with manual extrusion, and the author plans to enhance insulation by adding Capton tape to the Wade's extruder. Videos of test runs are available for reference. Improvement suggestions are welcomed.
