Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects have been commissioned for a permanent version of their original temporary pavilion, located by the HuangPu riverside in Shanghai's West Bund district. Named the Cloud Pavilion, this arts and events space appears to float along the waterfront, with a design comprising two white surfaces and 20,000 pieces of rope for a weightless, ephemeral feel that contrasts with nearby heavy industrial machinery.
