Cloud magnetic key shelf for car key fob
pinshape
I'd seen a unique idea for a cloud-shaped key holder that used magnets to hold multiple keys decoratively on the wall, and kudos were due to suck.uk.com for inspiring this design: http://www.suck.uk.com/products/cloud-keyholder/?search=cloud. The only issue with this solution was that at home we didn't keep our car key fobs on ferrous keyrings, and since the metals in the fobs themselves are non-magnetic, we needed a small pocket in the back of the cloud. Printed on a RepRapPro Mendel in PLA. The bottom slot is for some eBay-sourced cuboid (30x10x3mm) rare-earth magnets. A curved slot above the magnet slot is designed to hold optional metal shielding or redirection for key fobs, which can be sourced from kjmagnetics.com/blog.asp?p=shielding-materials. A quick Google search didn't determine if magnetic fields could actually damage a car's keyfob. The keyfob shelf is large enough for either a VW keyfob or a Volvo one, so I suspect most keyfobs will fit (I don't own enough vehicles to test it with more). This cloud-shaped key holder can be mounted either with double-sided foam tape or with a pair of nails (or both, as I have done).
