Update: I've uploaded V6, a design that's been fine-tuned through numerous small tweaks that have significantly improved its overall performance. My initial versions were plagued by sagging issues, but with each iteration, I've made steady progress until finally achieving 0 sag with V6. I still need to upload pictures of the latest version, as it was printed in clear filament - a cost-effective option for personal use, though not ideal for capturing high-quality images. To rectify this, I plan to print a colored version specifically for photography purposes. Update: V2 has been uploaded, featuring two minor adjustments that enhance its strength. Printing time is estimated at around 15 minutes, making it a relatively quick and efficient process. To facilitate comparison, I've included images of the common Closet rod spool holder from Thingiverse - a design printed with clear filament - alongside my own creation (printed in red filament). While I appreciate the efforts invested in the original design, unfortunately, it didn't quite meet my needs. It took an excessive amount of time to print, consumed too much filament, and suffered from significant sagging when loaded with a spool. Moreover, not all my spools could be accommodated due to the inadequate length of the part that interacts with the spool. Determined to hone my CAD skills and explore Onshape's capabilities, I decided to create my own design from scratch. This endeavor has allowed me to address the stress points and weight distribution, resulting in a piece that prints approximately 1/2 the time of its predecessor and boasts superior strength. My design is capable of accommodating spools up to 74mm wide, ensuring compatibility with brands like Hatchbox that feature center supports extending from one side of the spool to the other. However, due to limited testing with MakerGeeks and Hatchbox filaments only, I cannot guarantee suitability for all 1kg spool brands.
