Clone of Rockgeist Spacelink
cults3d
Nitish Nag reached out to me via direct message and asked if I could develop the Rockgeist Spacelink. I had never heard of it before, but it appears to be a clever way to attach bikepacking bags by replacing a headset spacer. The design is quite straightforward, so I decided to give it a try. Because the screw threads are situated parallel to the layer lines, printing them directly isn't feasible. To work around this issue, I created a hole for the threads at 3.7mm, which is roughly half the difference between the major and minor diameter of M4x0.7 threads. This should allow you to get a good interference fit with an M4 screw, and I recommend using a thread length of at least 12mm up to 20mm if desired. I haven't printed this design yet, but I figured it's worth sharing since I don't do much bikepacking myself. We've had some great discussions about how to handle the screw and threads in the comments section, and if you'd like to create your own variations on the design, feel free to modify it without messing with the STL file. Here's the latest updated model that you can download if you're interested. Make sure to post your creations so I can see them!
