Clone of Rockgeist Spacelink
thingiverse
Nitish Nag reached out to me via direct message and asked if I could create the Rockgeist Spacelink. I'd never heard of it before, but after checking it out, I realized it's a clever design that allows bikepacking bags to be mounted by replacing a headset spacer. The concept is straightforward enough that I decided to give it a try. Because the screw threads are parallel to the layer lines in a print, printing-in threads isn't feasible. To work around this issue, I designed the hole for the threads at 3.7mm, which is roughly half the difference between the major and minor diameter of M4x0.7 threads. This setup should allow for a good interference fit with an M4 screw, and I recommend using a thread length of at least 12mm up to 20mm. If desired, the hole can also be created at 3.7mm so that it can be tapped. I haven't printed this design yet, and my experience with bikepacking is limited, but I decided to make it available nonetheless. We've had some productive discussions about how to handle the screw and threads (check out the comments for more information), and if you're interested in making your own variations on the design, don't mess around with modifying the STL - just download the latest current model that's available at a360.co/2BW21aI. Make sure to post any makes you create! I always enjoy seeing them.
