Nitish Nag contacted me via DM and asked if I could create the Rockgeist Spacelink. I'd never heard of it, looks like a way to mount bikepacking bags by replacing a headset spacer. Clever design - and also pretty straightforward, so I figured I'd give it a go.

Because the screw threads are located parallel to the layer lines, printed-in threads aren't feasible. To work around this, I created the hole for the threads at 3.7mm which is about half the difference between the major and minor diameter of M4x0.7 threads. That means that you should be able to get a good interference fit with an M4 screw, and I'd suggest a thread length of at least 12mm up to 20mm. If desired, I could also create the hole at 3.7mm so that it could be tapped.

I haven't printed this yet, and don't do much bikepacking, but figured I'd make it available.

We've had some good discussions about how to handle the screw and threads (see the comments) and if you wanted to make your own variations on the design, don't screw around with modifying the STL, here's the latest current model that you can download if you wish.

Make sure you post your makes! I always love seeing them!

Print instructions

Category: Sport & Outdoors Summary

Nitish Nag contacted me via DM and asked if I could create the Rockgeist Spacelink.
