Clomantagh -KK013-002003 - Sheela-na-Gig
sketchfab
Horizontal Sheela-na-gig situated atop quoin on SW corner of Clomantagh Castle (KK013-002001-) stands just below fourth floor level. Currently, the 3D model displays a slight warp due to the angle of the photo, as a massive tree obstructs the carving's view. Freitag describes it as a large figure set within a recessed frame. The head rests on a long, thin neck; flat, droopy breasts are present, and wavy lines across the upper torso indicate ribs. The left arm lies in front of the body with the hand touching a square cavity indicating the vulva; the right arm is bent at the elbow with the lower arm raised towards the side of the head. Two long strands from the head appear to be hair similar to Rochestown and Moycarky drawings, suggesting these are accurate representations. The vulva is pronounced, with some speculating that something hangs between the opening, which appears to be detailing rather than a feature. A cleft-lip is also visible on the figure.
