Clock (Dual Ulysse Escapement)
thingiverse
I decided to convert TheGoofy's exceptional clock (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:328569) into one using a dual ulysse escapement. Designed by Ludwig Oeschlin, it is a modern take on Breguet's natural escapement that has garnered significant attention for its efficiency improvements through radial thrust. However, this benefit is somewhat offset by the need to overcome the rotational inertia of two escape wheels instead of just one. Ulysse Nardin minimized this problem by using silicone parts, and I simply made the wheels extra thin. Although I consider this a remix of TheGoofy's design, I ended up creating all of the parts from scratch, with the exception of the pulley and weight carrier which carry over from the original design. The frame turned out to be slightly larger but significantly flatter than before. I also decided to incorporate a differential winding drum into the design. The clock appears to run quite well using 1.9kg of weight for approximately six hours, with the pulley in place (individual results may vary). Non-printed materials required include: *2mm x 16mm dowel pins *2mm x 34mm shafts *3mm x 34mm shafts *550 cord guts or any kind of thin cordage *1.75mm filament strips To see the clock in action, visit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CfXuEa-WGOI For a detailed look at the assembly process, check out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NLQmyOB7T1M
