I purchased a straightforward IKEA Billy shelf which I intended to position in front of some access panels within the wall. To make these access panels, well, accessible, I mounted the shelf on rollers, constructed a wooden framework against the wall and fastened the shelf with pivots to the frame. As a result, I can swing open the shelf like a door to access the panels concealed behind. The drawback of that solution: unattractive looking pivots. Consequently, I created simple covers for them. They fit standard 80mm x 30mm pivots. I designed an open and a closed version, both snap into place effortlessly. You can easily tailor them to your specific needs. They also leave approximately 1mm clearance beneath for the screw heads.
