clip-on Bookmarks for Paperbacks and Magazines - No relocating required as you read.
thingiverse
Anyone who reads paperbacks and magazines will appreciate this simple bookmark that securely attaches to the back cover of books and magazines. It uses archival ribbon to mark your page when the book is closed, eliminating the need to insert or remove a separate bookmark. This eliminates the hassle of slipping a bookmark in and out, putting it down separately from the book while reading, then reinserting it when you stop, and it won't slip inside your book or fall out. You'll never lose your page marking again. However, this does require some archival ribbon, commonly used for gift wrapping, which has a fabric feel but is very fine and thin. It's not the same as plastic ribbon that's cheaper to use. The assembly process is straightforward but may take some patience, especially if you're new to 3D printing. But it's worth the effort because you'll only need to do it once. Here's how to assemble your bookmark: First, print the parts according to the instructions provided. This should take about 20 minutes. Remove the four parts from the raft and set them aside. Next, cut a piece of archival ribbon that's up to 10mm wide. Insert it into the largest part of the clip, making sure it's fully seated in the recess. Then, find the securing cap without a slot in it and insert the two small pins towards the ribbon side of the clip. Push them firmly together until the cap snaps into place. Note that these small pins grip and hold the ribbon in place by pushing it up into small recesses inside the clip. The back of the cap has a strip that acts as a lock to prevent the clip from coming loose again. Follow the same process with the remaining parts, securing the base to the bookmark. However, this time, feed the ribbon gently through the slot before inserting it into the base part. Push the parts firmly together to secure and lock them in place. Note that the base part is optional but recommended to prevent the end of the ribbon from fraying. If your clearances are too tight for the parts to clip together uniformly, try increasing the scale until they fit properly. On a Replicator 2 printer, printed according to instructions, the parts snap together perfectly and securely every time. However, it's possible that a strong tug on the ribbon could cause it to come apart. If you're concerned about this, you can use a small amount of glue to ensure the parts stay together.
