Climbing Cam

Climbing Cam

grabcad

This is a for-fun version of a rock climbing cam that can be relatively easily printed. The only hardware needed are some cap head 6/32" screws, two 1-inch screws, and two 3/4-inch screws. You can obtain these at Ace Hardware or any other hardware store. By scaling the design slightly, you may be able to make various diameter sizes fit. The key requirement is having a ~0.25-inch height difference. All files were printed at 125% scale except for the trigger wires, which were correctly scaled. A 0.4mm nozzle was used to print all parts. This may affect how the coil spring prints. An inner washer may be needed on the inside of each lobe but will need to be trimmed down so it won't hit the other cap washer on the adjacent lobe. The trigger wires are pushed through the correct hole in the cam lobes, and then a lighter is used to melt the plastic so it won't come back through the hole.
