Climb winch assy
grabcad
In the 2017 US FIRST competition, a device was designed to climb a knotted rope. The mechanism featured fingers that projected from the drum, grabbing the rope above a knot, pulling it around the drum, and elevating the robot upwards. Termination occurred approximately 10 feet above the floor when a triggered mechanism halted the ascent. Unseen in this depiction were torque multiplying gears and a ratchet mechanism, both mounted between red and green plates, as well as two lower corner brackets that counteracted torque during climbing. The winch assembly design was determined early in the six-week build period and adapted to various robot mounting configurations. A CIM motor, placed between blue and gray plates, powered the rope winding drum, while triangular assemblies aided in winch attachment to the robot chassis. This innovative mechanism performed consistently and dependably throughout the season.
