Cliff Palice is situated within the Mesa Verde National Monument in Colorado, USA. Guided tours are conducted on a daily basis throughout the warmer season. "Tree-ring dating reveals that construction and renovation of Cliff Palace were ongoing approximately between 1190 CE and 1260 CE, with the majority of building taking place over a span of about 20 years. The Ancestral Puebloans who built this cliff dwelling and others like it at Mesa Verde were driven to these secure locations by intensifying competition amidst shifting climatic conditions." [1] Cliff Palace was abandoned by 1300 CE, with some attributing its abandonment to a series of severe droughts that disrupted food production systems.
