Clicky, fishbone fidget toy
thingiverse
This is fidget toy I designed as experiment while exploring clicky mechanisms.I called it fishbone fidget toy, but of course it is simply two ratchet mechanisms arranged in single toy.Watch the video how it works (and to hear how it clicks - this is vertical no handles version).(TL;DR - print in PETG, vertical ringbone, 6x husks and vertical top and vertical bottom teeth, either with or without handles; vertical models are oriented for printing already)Printed in PETG, since it requires to be elastic, 10% infill, 0.2 layer height; snaps in place, so no fasteners required; designed to be printed without supports (horizontal version with handles may give you some problems - more on that below). There are two versions in two flavors each.Horizontal was first approach to such toy - its simpler and faster to print BUT it has problem with consistent click sound, since fishbone (part that clicks) has two sets of teeth that must have the same angluar width while beeing on different radius - therefore they have different geometry. You can print in with or without handles, but version with handles may give you some problems (it has overhangs, which can still print with few defects, but since it was just propotype I didn't fix it - consider supports).Horizontal version needs outer and inner teeth set.To overcome click consistency vertical version was created - fishbone is now spilt, since different parts need different print orientation. Also they act a bit as springs now against folds that holds everything in place, so you may need to squeeze it a bit during usage to have nice sound.Vertical version needs top and bottom teeth set, also vertical version is print optimized.
