Cleopatra's needle is a well-known term for each of three Ancient Egyptian obelisks situated in London, Paris, and New York City, erected during the nineteenth century. These structures have no connection to Queen Cleopatra VII or Egypt, however they were built during the reign of Pharaoh Thutmose III in approximately 1450 BC. They are carved from granite, stand about 21 meters high and weigh around 224 tons each. One such obelisk can be found at Victoria Embankment near Embankment station in London, flanked by two identical sphinxes, which have also been uploaded to Scan The World. This object is part of the "Scan The World" initiative. Scan the World is a non-profit project created by MyMiniFactory, aimed at building a digital archive of fully 3D printable sculptures, artworks and landmarks from around the globe for public access without charge. Scan the World is an open-source community effort; if you have interesting items nearby and would like to contribute, email stw@myminifactory.com to learn how you can assist.
