A Custom Pendant Based on the Clayr's Sigil from Abhorsen This custom pendant design draws inspiration from the sigil of the Clayr from Garth Nix's Abhorsen series. The model can be printed directly or cast in metal using the provided molds. The default size is about 1.5 inches across, weighing less than 2 ounces when cast. Most parameters are adjustable via the Customizer. Printing and Casting Options Files for printing a full pendant, half-pendant, and mold are included. See the website writeup for full directions with more pictures. **Printing a Full Pendant** To print a full pendant in one go, use the Pendant.stl file provided. Support material is required to ensure a smooth finish. **Printing a Half-Pendant** Print two copies of the PendantHalf.stl file and glue or epoxy them together. This process does not require support material. **Casting a Pendant** This project uses 3D printed molds for metal casting. A special Bismuth-Tin alloy is recommended, which melts at 138°C (281°F). Non-toxic Field's Metal is another option, but it's more expensive. Materials and Tools Needed * 3D printer * Mold making materials * Metal alloy (Bismuth-Tin or Field's Metal) * Furnace or heat source * Hand tools for demolding * Wire cutters and soldering iron (for hanging) Demolding the Pendant **Method 1** The first half of the mold is easy to remove by prying it off with some difficulty. For the second half, apply gentle pressure on the edges while rotating the mold to loosen any stubborn areas. **Method 2** If you don't care about reusing molds, you can cut the metal free using a saw or cutting wheel. Final Touches * Remove the metal nub on the back of the pendant with a Dremel cutting disk. * Hang the pendant using jeweler's wire and solder. Notes and Tips * The molds can be reused multiple times before needing replacement. However, it's best to make design revisions from mold to mold for optimal results. * Consider experimenting with different metal alloys and mold designs for unique results.
