Clay Target Thrower
grabcad
Using Autodesk Inventor 2014, a dynamic simulation was created featuring a rotating arm that initiates the main action due to its imposed rotation and later gravity force. The model is based on a classic design from a presentation film (https://youtu.be/0b9rtuFweZA) which served as the sole information source for modeling. The rotating arm experiences an acceleration of 3000 degrees per second (500 rotations per minute) within 0.01 seconds, maintaining this speed for another 0.07 seconds before stopping in the same duration. A force is applied normal to a clay target to launch it at a higher velocity. The entire action takes merely 0.32 seconds. In the future, a large spring will be added to replicate real functionality instead of imposing motion on the rotating arm. Those with similar throwers are kindly requested to share detailed images for reference. Downloadable .iam and .ipt files are available for users working with Inventor to explore and modify settings in the dynamic simulation environment.
