Clay pipe fragment remains, discovered in the Coweeta Creek site (31Ma34), located in Macon County, North Carolina. Dating back to the South Appalachian Mississippian period, specifically within the Middle Qualla phase (AD 1450-1700). Crafted from ceramic material, this relic measures 54.1 mm in length, 23.1 mm in width, and 23.6 mm in thickness. Catalogued as no. 2020a2769, it features a rim fragment of a large, boat-shaped pipe adorned with effigies of a bird head and human face. The North Carolina Archaeological Collection at the Research Laboratories of Archaeology, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, houses this artifact, with a model designed by Steve Davis.
