Clay amphora with the image of a woman
myminifactory
The clay amphora with the image of a woman was found in 2004 in the remains of one of the buildings of a prehistoric village. The vessel was reconstructed by combining the unearthed broken elements. The relief on the amphora depicts a female figure shown in a schematic way. The image was obtained with very simple artistic methods by sticking circular bumps and clay strips decorated with fingernail imprints to the wall. Almost perfect symmetry of the figure was maintained, and the fingers and toes were carefully marked. The woman's head was recreated with clay lumps – most likely it is the equivalent of a carefully arranged hairstyle. Among the several thousand fragments of clay vessels discovered in Targowisko, only this one is so uniquely decorated.
