Decided to take apart my rubiks cube and see how it works. While at it I decided it would be cool to try to model in solidworks so this is what a few days works has gotten me. I did an expanded view right now so you can see how all the pieces fit together but if you download it you can easily move the pieces together and see how they self lock(The best way to do this would to build the bottom layer, then add the second layer, then the outside pieces of the top layer and then finally the center piece for the top.) I couldn’t figure out an accurate way to mate these all together in solidworks so its not that realistic, however I wanted to show how it locks together more than anything so I hope this is an easier way for people to understand(rather than buying one to take apart). I do have to add a shoutout to John B and CJ A for helping me figure out how to color all the pieces differently, yet all be the same instance of a component. Took a little screwing around but I finally got it.
