Classic Escapement - Swiss Lever

Based on Mark V. Headrick's book "CLOCK AND WATCH ESCAPEMENT MECHANICS" (1997), this article delves into the core of escapement design. The book is freely available online (http://www.nawcc-index.net/Articles/Headrick-EscMechanics.pdf). This series of projects focuses on geometric aspects and serves as accurate simulations to understand the book. It covers the Swiss Lever escapement used in watches. The Swiss Lever escapement model is presented from page 44 of the book. Constructed using Inventor 2014, it consists of key components like the Wheel, Swiss Lever with stones, Balance Wheel Disc with impulse pin, and banking pins on a plate. A video showcases the movement starting with the Wheel driving the Swiss Lever's motion, followed by the lever colliding with the impulse pin to provide energy to the Balance Wheel at each oscillation. Due to limitations in Dynamic Simulation, a helicoidal spring was used to simulate the spiral spring action on the back of the plate or in the provided video (https://youtu.be/1_o7qbnzcAA). Explore more through various simulations and models shared in the article's links. Enjoy!
