Classic Car, Substitute 1971 Dodge Challenger Fender Clip, Wide Chrome "Spring Package"
thingiverse
I designed these custom clips for a friend restoring a 1971 Dodge Challenger with the exclusive "Spring Package" Wide Nose Chrome Moldings, found only on that specific model year and available as a one-year option. The clips are specifically used to attach the two fender-wide chrome moldings. I created two versions suitable for 3-D printing, which I printed in PETG at a 45° angle to balance minimal supports with optimal strength. Printing at a 0° angle could lead to delamination due to alignment with the fender sheet metal. Due to outside temperatures, I use PETG despite ABS's higher temperature profile, as it can cause problems with layer adhesion. I performed torque testing on both designs in Polymax PLA and PETG, which all yielded around 17 in-lbs of force. If this helps the classic car community, please leave a comment and/or share a maker picture. I added an updated file that can be printed without supports and at no rotation, ready to go straight away. I trimmed off 1mm from the edge so it would sit flat on the fender. This new file is named EZ_Print. Recommendations for printing: Use perimeters of 4, 100% infill, no support, 0.2mm layers, and already rotated - PETG or ABS work well here, with no brim needed but can be added if desired. For optimal results, print 4 at a time to allow cooling time between layers.
