Class Desk Tidy
thingiverse
This is a straightforward project in 3D CAD that creates a Desk Tidy designed to assist teachers in the classroom, featuring compartments for erasers, pencils, and post-it notes measuring 8x8cm. Print Settings Printer Brand: Stratasys Printer: uPrint SE Plus Rafts: Doesn't Matter Supports: Doesn't Matter Resolution: 0.2540 How I Designed This Designing this part is a simple process in any CAD package, and we used Inventor. It uses basic shapes, with the main lesson being measurement of items to fit inside. Additionally, it's a good idea to shell the interior to avoid excessive plastic usage. Project: Class Desk Tidy Objectives Create a functional desk tidy for teachers to use on classroom tables, particularly in design lessons. Develop basic CAD skills in creating this product. Audience Teachers are the primary audience, while Grade 8+ students will design and manufacture parts using fundamental CAD skills and 3D printing capabilities. Preparation Students conduct interviews with staff to determine which objects the storage unit needs to hold. Accurate measurements are essential, as demonstrated by our design accommodating a pack of 8x8cm post-it notes and 20 color pencils. Steps Conduct interviews with teachers and take necessary measurements. Sketch the design on paper. Use CAD software to draw the shape using extrude, 2D sketch, cut, and shell functions. Leave at least a 1mm edge for added strength. Format as STL and proceed with printing. Results We successfully printed the product using our machine. However, there was an abundance of support material beneath the part that needed dissolution, taking longer than anticipated (4 hours). Future iterations could benefit from reducing part size to minimize this issue.
