The Ticonderoga Class Cruiser is also known as the Aegis cruiser due to its installation with an advanced weapons control system. Initially, it was a modified Spruance Class; however, the US Navy reclassified it as a Guided Missile Cruiser upon incorporating the Aegis System. From the 1970s to the early 1990s, 28 of these vessels were built. The second variant in this class featured upgraded electronics and a revamped superstructure, including Cruisers CG49-CG58. In the third variation (CG59-CG73), Ticonderoga ships added upgraded missile launch systems, such as VLS Vertical Launch systems, now part of the Navy's surface fleet striking arm.
