Hello my name is Audrey Clark and I am an 11-year-old fifth-grader from California who's determined to become an aerospace engineer for NASA one day. I entered this competition because it seemed like the perfect opportunity to get a head start on my future career in space exploration. This lunar sampler drum boasts a hydraulic-powered drill, a cutting-edge technology that showcases its innovative design. Two syringes are cleverly integrated into this design, connected to the "claw" that plays a crucial role in the sampling process. When I pull up on the handle of one syringe, which isn't connected to the claw, the claw opens its "mouth," allowing the hydraulic-powered drill to gently lower onto the lunar surface. To retrieve the drill, I simply push down on the other syringe not attached to the claw. Made from a lightweight non-ferrous metal such as aluminum, this drum is designed for durability and efficiency in space missions.
