Geological features and fossils reveal an ancient ecosystem's secrets. This distinctive boulder showcases both aspects. The size and shape of the ripples offer clues about the current's force and direction, while the shell molds provide examples of life in this environment. Situated in Chaco Culture National Historical Park, these features were uncovered when a massive sandstone monolith known as Threatening Rock crashed down on Pueblo Bonito on January 22, 1941. If you visit the park, you can learn about this rockfall event and see this boulder along the trail at the pueblo.
