So I was really getting sick of looking for a lightweight mattebox for gimbal and steadicam use, so I made this thing myself. I'd love to hear any ideas on how to improve it or make it even lighter. It looks like it can fit 4-inch by 5.65-inch filters, but I've got my sights set on making it able to use two filters one day. Pro-mist is getting phased out in favor of post-processing anyway, so that's not a priority right now. The first ring I made works with lenses that are 114mm, but I think I'll be making smaller rings as well - we'll see! Few notes: I'll make smaller rings later if you don't want to wait, feel free to make some yourself; the rings will change, but the back plate should stay the same. Other note: Once I'm happy with this project, I'll take it down and start selling it after a month. So get it while the getting's good! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5PCFBKIXGjU&feature=youtu.be PARTS LIST: 1 - 80mm M4 Bolt 3 - 40mm M4 Bolts 6 - M4 Nuts 9 - M3 Nuts 5 - 12mm M3 Bolts 1 - 30mm M3 Bolt 3 - 15mm M3 Bolts UPDATE: I fixed the filter latch from preventing filters from entering the chamber, sorry about that. And I added an 83MM clamp, which should work for Rokinon 35mm lenses. UPDATE2: Added a 77mm clamp, a 15mm mount, and fixed the flag so it doesn't get in the way of the top bolt. UPDATE3: The first version of the rod mount was kinda janky, but this one makes it super strong. It's 200 grams with the 15mm rod adapter, without it's closer to 156 grams - my scale isn't awesome though. You'll need to print the 15mm rod mounts with some kind of support, sorry about that. UPDATE4: The CazBox got a little smaller! It now fits on the Prusa Mini and is a bit lighter too. The only other part that needs reprinting is the flag. UPDATE5: I reworked the main box and the flag so they can be lighter and stronger. Print time should go up, but that's okay. I added some new files for you, specifically a knob for the M4 bolt - new lid, new back plate. UPDATE6: What happened to Thingiverse? This website is slow as heck; I'm moving over to Prusa's soon. So look out for that! Fixed light leaks from the 83mm disk, made it lighter and stronger, added the "CazBox <3" logo to the top - heres a link to my Prusa https://www.prusaprinters.org/prints/26328-cazbox-a-light-weight-clamp-on-mattebox-now-with-1/files UPDATE 4/10/2020 Oh hey there fellow unemployed film makers! Added: * EXPERIMENTAL 2nd Filter! You'll need to print this with supports; no way getting around that. You'll need to file it as well - the opening is tight on purpose! * EXPERIMENTAL Filter Frame This frame you can print without supports; it should fit semi-snugly on your filter. I measured everything and think it should work. Fixed: * Added "light slots" (that's what I'm calling them); they make shadows so less light leaks in to the box. I'd recommend sanding, then coating your box with some kinda... anti-reflective paint or a filament that is very non-reflective. Last update! I think for a while. Let's say 60 (8/26/2020) I printed it recently to confirm that it's working! It's working! Looks pretty good too, I added some new files for ya - specifically a knob for the M4 bolt; new lid, new back plate.
