Clamp hooks for a 15.5mm (5/8") diameter rail
thingiverse
We've had an Ikea wall mounted dish drainer that mounts to a rail with hooks for hanging cups, strainers, etc. I was frustrated with the loose-fitting, S-shaped stainless steel hooks that easily shifted out of position when using them casually. They required too much focus or hand-eye coordination. So, we designed these new hooks to provide more stability and a snugger fit without needing so much attention. The lighter hook only requires one M3 screw but involves some rail disassembly; the heavier-duty version doesn't require disassembling the rail and uses two M3 x 10mm screws. Keep in mind that this first version can hold only light items weighing under 250gms; it may not be able to carry objects like mugs that weigh up to 370gms. Using one, I discovered that it starts fine but eventually fails where the handle of a mug rests after about one year of use. On the other hand, this hook appears sturdy enough for holding strainers that weigh approximately 220gms. To overcome this limitation, we designed an even more robust hook, hopefully making it last "forever." The specifications to create these parts on a printer are as follows: Printer Brand: Ultimaker Printer Model: Ultimaker Original Rafts Used: No Raft Needed Supports Used: No Support Structures Required Resolution Setting: 0.2mm Layer Height Infill Level: Solid 100% Infill Here's the process I used to design these custom hooks. They were designed using the Moment of Inspiration software, which allowed us to come up with an innovative solution for this problem.
