Clamps are fastening devices that hold objects tightly together to prevent movement or separation by applying inward pressure. In the UK and Australia, temporary clamping tools used for positioning components during construction and woodworking are often called cramps, hence G cramps or sash cramps, but wheel clamps or surgical clamps remain distinct terms.
