The Singaporean monument is called the Civilian War Memorial but locals fondly refer to it as the "Chopsticks" memorial due to its unique design. Four pillars stand tall at approximately 67 metres each, forming two pairs of chopsticks that pay homage to the diverse population of Singapore. The pillars carry a profound meaning - they represent the four main ethnic groups residing in the country. At the base of the monument, words are inscribed in four languages: English, Mandarin, Malay, and Tamil. These words serve as a poignant reminder of the Civilian Victims of the Japanese Occupation, which lasted from 1942 to 1945.
