This 18th/19th century brick kiln is rapidly disintegrating from the southern edge of Brownsea Island in Poole Harbour. The island was a key location for Alum and Copperas production from the 15th-16th centuries, and later became a thriving hub for pottery manufacturing. Visible reminders of this industrial heritage can be seen scattered throughout the island, but coastal sites like this one are increasingly threatened by erosion and storm damage. The site was thoroughly excavated and surveyed by the National Trust in 2007, and the CITiZAN team is currently working closely with National Trust volunteers to document and monitor these sites before they disappear forever.
