Next, take a level and draw a straight line along the wall between these marks. This line represents the ideal position for your first screw hole. Now, take a stud finder to locate the nearest wall stud behind the drywall. The stud finder will beep or light up when it detects a stud's edge. Mark this spot with another pencil mark.
