Circular Elements

thingiverse mrule 9994 Free

Snap-together sockets designed for circular PCBs.
I lengthened the default hinge length. This makes for a stronger hinge that is also harder to snap together. It is still compatible with the Breakout Elements hinges.
The .stl files provided are examples and probably won't work for any boards you have lying around. The circle diameter is in the filename, except for "lily" which is an untested version that might fit the lilypad arduino.

Instructions
Circular boards are easy to make using a drill and a hollow drill bit from your local hardware store. With these snap together holders, you can use circular circuit boards to prototype on interesting and aesthetically pleasing surfaces and polyhedra.
Radioshack also sells circular protoboard, and some Sparkfun boards like Lilypad (just barely fits) are circular.
This script is designed to use 3,4,5, and 6 sided polygons. You must specify the polygon size and the radius of the circular board when you call the module. Other parameters in the module are defaulted to be compatible with thing 5882.
Here is what I would do to build a circuit-board buckyball :
-1- pick a style of prototyping board
-2- estimate largest circle diameter for hexagons and pentagons (I measure 45mm for hexagons and 32mm for pentagons)
-3- add a good 7mm(ish) buffer to these estimates to figure out how much board you'll need
-4- find hollowed out drill-bits with an inner diameter no more than a few mm larger than your chosen diameters
-5- using these bits, drill through a piece of wood to make a guide for drilling out the boards
-6- using the wood for guidance, drill out circular prototyping boards : 12 pentagon-sized and 20 hexagon-sized
-7- measure the actual diameter of the boards, and use this script to generate suitable pieces. You may want to adjust the bracket size to give some room for error
-8- print test brackets for hexagons and pentagons and make sure they fit
-9- print 20 hexagons and 12 pentagons and assemble your buckyball shaped prototyping surface
