The circle of Willis is a vascular ring that surrounds the pituitary gland at its base and connects several arteries that supply blood to the brain. The circle of Willis is formed by five main arteries: two internal carotid arteries, one posterior communicating artery, and two anterior cerebral arteries. This means that if one artery becomes blocked or narrowed, blood can still flow to the brain through other routes. The circle of Willis has several key functions: 1.
