Circle Knot Chainmail
thingiverse
This fun variation of chain mail features stretchy flower-like links, inspired by circle knots found at https://www.cs.duke.edu/~edels/Tubes/knots/circ/. To create printable, interlocking designs, the bottoms are flattened and available in various symmetries such as four-fold or six-fold, with loop numbers being a multiple of the symmetry. The .scad file includes parameters for adjustments, but practical limitations may restrict the number of loops based on printer capabilities. The magic.scad file contains a sweeping sphere function used by knot_chain.scad. Printed results were achieved using PLA, 0.2mm layer height, 10% infill, 80/100 mm/s, 215 degrees on a Replicator 1 with glass build platform and active cooling fan.
