Circle Dance
sketchfab
Circle Dance encapsulates the central idea behind the Congo Square visual-album. Its title originates from artist John T. Scott's concept of "jazz-thinking," which he uses in his New Orleans-based artwork. Scott describes jazz-thinking as the ability to exist simultaneously in the past, present, and future. He defines this phenomenon as being constantly aware of where one has been while also anticipating where one is going. This unique mindset is characteristic of the improvisational nature of jazz music. I apply Scott's concept of spherical thinking in Circle Dance by visually incorporating a British capstan from 1835, which serves as an artifact that reinforces the transatlantic theme.
