The Cover-Inhalation Port, Gen 4 (CIP-Gen4) is a bayonet cap designed to shut off one of two inhalation ports on the 3M 6000 series half-face respirators. Due to current circumstances affecting PPE and respirator supplies, these masks have become high-demand items in short supply. Although better gas masks and tactical respirators exist, the 3M 6000 series is extremely common, with many people already owning one for their workshop. Made from silicone, these respirators are far more comfortable than the sharp-edged N95 Particulate Respirators used by healthcare specialists and first responders on the front lines of the pandemic. The 3M 6000 series masks prioritize comfort, protection, and breathability but have a dual filter cartridge design that's not ideal for shooters who need to shoulder a rifle. The mask's filter cartridge on the dominant side often impedes natural presentation of the rifle's optics. The goal of the CIP was to block one inhalation port securely while maintaining a minimalist profile. We didn't invent the concept, as 3M offers a port cover (part number 6880), but it's limited in availability. Others have created 3D printable port covers, yet many aren't as low-profile as desired. The CIP-Gen4 features an inner plug with a dash and an o-ring for additional sealing. The o-ring is optional, as the flat bottom face of the CIP-Gen4 provides the main seal, along with the internal one-way valve in the mask. The secondary o-ring seal offers extra protection.
