Cinema Camera Slider (Heavy Duty)
grabcad
This design caters specifically to large cinema cameras like Red Epic and Black Magic, although smaller cameras are also compatible. The legs of the track enable leveling for ground-level filming. Additionally, the carriage can be removed and mounted on an arch-shaped plastic track for interview-style shots. Motorization includes a 200:1 gear ratio with electronic speed control. A pan and tilt system is planned to be added, offering smooth movements. The designer has also built a motorized turntable for filming various objects. This model serves as a proof of concept, using off-the-shelf parts from ServoCity and will later be machined from 6061 aluminum. Instead of cap screws for leg adjustment, wing bolts are chosen for convenience. The total cost of the project amounts to around $525. An update reveals a completed project with one issue: insufficient traction at steep inclines, requiring an "add on" part as a manual differential lock. Test footage is available, and the designer plans to use it during an upcoming filming trip for further evaluation and practice.
