Cinderella Lithophane Pendant
thingiverse
My daughter walked into school wearing her Little Mermaid Lithophane Pendant one day, and when she arrived home, she asked me to make a pendant for other princesses. When I told her that was possible, she took out a handwritten list of all the girls in her class with their preferred princess and color for each pendant. The look on her face still has me chuckling. So now I have created one for Cinderella and Belle. Take a look at the pictures to see how the original image is transformed into a black-and-white version with added definition. I'm not exactly thrilled with my camera phone's performance; in reality, the pendant looks better than it does in these photos. MakeALot's lithophane generator made creating this project effortless: http://3dp.rocks/lithophane/ Then I imported the image into Tinkercad to shape a perfect circle, add a round rim and a loop for hanging, as well as create some customized supports to ensure that the pendant prints upright. The instructions will guide you on how to print this successfully. Instructions In terms of printing, I have discovered that it works best with plastic that is almost entirely opaque. Plastic that is mostly transparent can not effectively define dark areas; however, it creates a distinct and visually appealing look when combined with opaque plastics. On the opposite end of the spectrum, very opaque plastics require a significant amount of light to view clearly. A picture with my white, pink in the center, and partially clear blue for illustration has been provided as an example. I have oriented this lithophane for printing vertically because vertical orientation achieves a superior resolution compared to horizontal prints. If you are experiencing difficulty keeping your object secure on its axis due to vibrations or movements from one axis during printing, I recommend adjusting your settings. I opted to print the model with an S value of about 40mm/sec at a layer thickness of 0.15 mm; and then set my slicer to create a structure for perimeter that includes little to no zig-zag infill, resulting in smoother edges for this thin print, minimizing any potential disturbances when printing it from beginning to end, such as the common shaking off associated with loose materials, which is generally difficult or very tough. Lastly, due to its small dimensions, ensure that your support structure doesn't interfere too much while breaking free and minimal clean up afterward should occur with little effort.
