Cinderblock Mold 1:10 Scale

This is a 1:10 scale concrete cinderblock mold. I remixed this by increasing the size of the block slightly from the original version and I slimmed down the mold to bare minimum widths to use the least amount of material. This mold will be destroyed in order to get the bricks out. It may seem wasteful but PLA is WAY cheaper than liquid silicone as most other mini cinderblock molds require. Step By Step Guide: Warning: This is a decent amount of work but so worth it. Cement Type: "Fast Concrete Repair" Brand doesn't matter, you'll find something similar at any hardware store. This is fast setting so just mix a little at a time. Mix it a little on the wetter side so it's easier to get into the molds. 1. Mix concrete and place onto molds ( I used a plastic spoon) and vigorously tap the molds on a work surface so that the concrete flows into the mold. After doing 130 of these...my arms are killing me. Get ready to burn a few calories lol. Continue to add concrete and tap until you are satisfied the molds are full. 2. Once the mold is full immediately wrap it in plastic wrap and leave it sit somewhere at room temperature for several days. I gave it a week, I'm sure 48 hours is plenty. 3. Now to remove the bricks. Place ONE mold on an old baking sheet in an oven on broil or high heat until the plastic looks like it's starting to melt. (I personally used a toaster oven on broil for this and it worked great). Remove the mold (with gloves) from the oven and quickly but carefully start prying the mold apart and you will see the bricks will just pop out. I say quickly because you will notice that the PLA doesn't take very long to start hardening up again. This is also why I say to put one mold at a time. 4. "But wait!? the two holes still have plastic in them!" Now that you have the bricks out of the mold you will have to place them BACK in the oven to re-heat them (because by now the plastic in the center is thoroughly re-hardened). Once re-heated use a small screw driver to simply pop out the plastic in the centers. 5. Marvel at your creation!
